Firefox Fans force Symantec to change stand
Symantec has accepted that it made an unfair comparison of IE and Firefox.
An Internet Security Threat Report issed by Symanted stated that Firefox had more vulnerabilities than IE. The report considered only vendor-confirmed bugs and so the IE figure was far too low.
Angry Firefox fans resorted to a letter writing campaign and sent hundreds of emails to Symantec. The pressure was so huge that Symantec accepted the mistake.
"How we did it before wasn't a fair comparison," said Oliver Friedrichs, the senior manager of Symantec's security response group. "It wasn't an apples to apples comparison."
The latest Symantect Threat report has two categories, vendor-confirmed and a combination of vendor and non-vendor-confirmed flaws. No wonder, IE wins one category and Firefox the other.
