Adobe Spry: Ajax made simple for web designers

Google has developed a bulk portion of their web applications in Ajax - GMail, Google Calendar. Page Creator or Google Maps - they are all written in Ajax. Yahoo's Flickr and Maps service again make heavy use of Ajax.

Now, even Adobe is preparing to jump the Ajax bandwagon and have launched a free pre-release version of the Spry Ajax framework with the purpose is make Ajax programming easier for web designers.

Unlike existing frameworks like Zimbra or Dojo, Adobe Spry lets Web designers create Ajax-enabled web pages without having to learn new languages. Spry can be integrated with Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Golive or any other HTML authoring tool.

Spry can incorporate XML into HTML documents using technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Flex support may be integrated in the final release. A web designer can view the source of a page built using Spry and quickly and easily understand what is happening and how to further customize it.

Adobe hopes eventually to monetize Spry by incorporating support for it into authoring tools such as Dreamweaver.
