Psychologist Akira Haraguchi from Japan recited by memory the mathematical number pi down to the 100,000th digit. The record attempt started at 9 a.m. on Tuesday and finished at about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Haraguchi used his own unique method of using sound connections to remember the numbers, converting them into Japanese syllables and making sentences from them.

He nibbled on rice balls during the attempt, and seemed to be calm as he recalled the numbers.

PI is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter which has an infinite number of decimal points.
